Trauma Therapy
Are You Struggling To Heal From A Traumatic Experience?
Like so many of us, have you experienced a traumatic event that you just can’t quite let go of? Do you find yourself fixated on the experience and unable to fully move past it? Have you experienced any of the following negative symptoms or patterns related to trauma:
Anxiety?
Depression?
Relationship problems?
Health issues?
Perhaps you’ve already identified and are actively working through your symptoms. Or maybe you’ve just long had the feeling that something is “off” in your life and your relationships.
You may often manage to function well while remaining internally depleted and exhausted. There may even be days when you can barely function at all because everything feels so overwhelming all the time.
Unhealed Trauma Can Impact Nearly Every Aspect Of Your Life
The lasting impacts of trauma can be obvious or subtle—or both. Getting through the day can feel like a chore, with little joy or fulfillment. You may also feel constantly anxious about your relationships with your partner, your family, or your friends—or have shut yourself off from connection with others entirely.
When left unaddressed, trauma’s aftereffects can spill over into all the other areas of your life. But therapy can help you move past your trauma and through the healing process so you can live a life of greater peace, joy, and fulfillment.

Most People Experience Trauma At Some Point In Their Lives
Unfortunately, the experience of trauma is all too common, as most of us will undergo it in some form at some point in our lives. This also means trauma survivors are truly not alone. And yet trauma—particularly the aftermath of trauma—can often prove to be a difficult and isolating experience for many.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “around 70 percent of people globally will experience a potentially traumatic event during their lifetime” and yet “up to 40 percent of people with PTSD recover within one year” (1). Many never seek or receive any treatment for the trauma they’ve endured, though, which prolongs their suffering and postpones their healing.
Trauma Is Often Too Confusing Or Overwhelming To Process Alone
Trauma occurs when something is too confusing, painful, or overwhelming to process on our own and we get stuck or unable to move forward. Often, people will try to numb their trauma, which, while understandable, tends only to make things worse. But outside support can help us get unstuck—it guides us in working through our trauma, rather than numbing it.
The right form of therapy can help you address and reprocess your trauma in a safe and healthy way. At Alpine Family Counseling, we offer you an empathetic, non-judgmental space where we can work through traumatic issues and experiences large and small together.

Trauma Therapy Can Help You Heal And Move Forward
When you’ve undergone trauma that has remained unaddressed and unprocessed for a long time, you can sometimes simply get used to the unease, or even ignore it. Who wouldn’t?
But therapy can help you listen and connect with yourself on a deeper level so you can actually move past your trauma and into greater self-attunement. Consider therapy as a way to better integrate all the conflicting parts of yourself into wholeness.
We will first explore your existing relationship with these parts and with your own emotions, in order to better understand where the trauma is and where you’re stuck. Rooted in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and Reparenting Therapy, our approach is also aimed toward a holistic understanding and treatment of trauma and the self.
A Holistic, Eclectic Approach To Trauma Therapy
Our trauma work typically incorporates several therapeutic modalities, including:
Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) – An effective way of dealing with trauma, IFS works to build wholeness between the various subparts of your personality.
Reparenting Therapy (RT) – An increasingly popular modality, Reparenting Therapy helps you relearn negative or unhealthy patterns developed in childhood.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) – A highly structured therapeutic method, EMDR can help you more positively reprocess your trauma.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – An evidence-based form of psychotherapy, CBT can help you develop healthier thoughts and perspectives related to your trauma.
For trauma counseling, we typically begin with IFS and Reparenting Therapy and proceed from there, depending on your situation, needs, and goals. IFS helps you build a better relationship with the parts of yourself and with your emotions.
Reparenting Therapy involves connecting with younger versions of yourself from within the present self who are still stuck or grieving. If the IFS work is already done, we then move on to EMDR work to actively reprocess the trauma. And we also use elements of CBT and reframing to reshape negative ways of thinking and seeing.
Our long-term goals are to lower your levels of distress and raise your level of connection with yourself and the world around you. We want you to be able to connect with your emotions, even difficult ones, without getting stuck. And we can help you uncover and learn to love who you are and build a stronger sense of identity and wholeness.
You May Still Have Some Questions About Trauma Therapy…
-
I’m concerned that it will take a long time for therapy to make a difference.
While therapy requires patience and effort, the healing journey often takes far less time than the trauma itself took to occur. And although therapy involves an investment of time, it can lead to a healthier and more fulfilling life.
-
I’m skeptical about the effectiveness of therapy, especially online therapy.
We have both personally experienced the immense power and effectiveness of good therapy, both in-person and online. We believe in what we do, take our work very seriously, and have seen the effectiveness of our work with our clients firsthand.
-
I’ve had a bad experience with therapy in the past and I’m afraid of being judged or misunderstood.
Our primary concern is for you to feel seen and understood, not judged, as we care for your emotional well-being through a holistic lens. Our goal is to help individuals connect and understand their experiences in a gentle, curious, and compassionate way.
